Okay, as bloody fantastic as Marineford was, I have to say this: I wish these flashbacks happened before Ace's death。 We could've had them back at Amazon Lilly。 It would've set up the emotional loss even more。 I just find it unsatisfying that Luffy and Ace's backstory is given to us after he is dead。 A little nitpicky, but I just feel there was a missed opportunity there。 Okay, as bloody fantastic as Marineford was, I have to say this: I wish these flashbacks happened before Ace's death。 We could've had them back at Amazon Lilly。 It would've set up the emotional loss even more。 I just find it unsatisfying that Luffy and Ace's backstory is given to us after he is dead。 A little nitpicky, but I just feel there was a missed opportunity there。 。。。more

I felt like this chapter had many revelations to the story, like revealing to the public that Gold Roger, the first pirate king was Ace's dad and revealing that Dragon, the revolutionary, was Luffy's dad。 There were also many dramatic events like Ace dying in Luffy's arms started his depression arc, and also Garp, a marine hero, having to hold himself back to not save Luffy。 I felt like this chapter had many revelations to the story, like revealing to the public that Gold Roger, the first pirate king was Ace's dad and revealing that Dragon, the revolutionary, was Luffy's dad。 There were also many dramatic events like Ace dying in Luffy's arms started his depression arc, and also Garp, a marine hero, having to hold himself back to not save Luffy。 。。。more

Its pretty much the fallout of the war and we see the different members of the strawhats deal with this in their own way and every thing in this new world is changing and everyone is adjusting to it and we also get an amazing flashback of Luffy and Ace's past and what made them this way to begin with and an amazing focus on Luffy!

I read One Piece all through high schools and it helped me through some pretty tough times。 I kinda lost touch with the series in college, but I recently got my first job and moved, but couldn't bring all my One Piece mangas with me, only the last bit (I own all comics up to volume 74)。 This volume is basically the last stretch of the Impel Down arc - I had kinda repressed how emotional this arc is and how much I love these characters。 I can't wait to catch up on the shennanigans I missed! :D I read One Piece all through high schools and it helped me through some pretty tough times。 I kinda lost touch with the series in college, but I recently got my first job and moved, but couldn't bring all my One Piece mangas with me, only the last bit (I own all comics up to volume 74)。 This volume is basically the last stretch of the Impel Down arc - I had kinda repressed how emotional this arc is and how much I love these characters。 I can't wait to catch up on the shennanigans I missed! :D 。。。more

What I love about this arc in particular is the way Oda creates Luffy's emotions。 For myself, the death of [redacted] gave Luffy PTSD, especially after the flashback death of [redacted]。 And when Jimbie basically smack-down Luffy to remind him that he still has his crew?
